GitHub Copilot Certification

I’ve been lucky enough to have access to GitHub Copilot for some time, and I frequently use it to ask coding questions in my day-to-day work. It usually revolves around simple scripts or better ways to do things in KQL. GitHub recently announced that GitHub Copilot now has a free tier for anyone to use. There are various limits, but you can get started with it. There is a lot of AI snake oil out there and some healthy skepticism. Is AI really going to be a thing in a few years? I highly recommend listening to a recent SANS podcast with John Hubbard and Seth Misenar, “How GenAI is Changing Your SOC for the Better”.

GitHub also released a learning path and certification for Copilot. The learning path was very straightforward, and now that you can set up GitHub Copilot yourself, you can easily follow along. I learned a few things that I wasn’t using before: specifically the implicit prompts, command palettes, and the command line usage. After completing the learning path, I took the exam, which I thought the learning path covered reasonably well. Combined with my previous day-to-day usage, it wasn’t too much trouble. I’m happy to say this was the third GitHub exam I passed. For previous exams, see GitHub Foundations and GitHub Administration.
